Path Editing

Click on the Path Edit Button at the top of the Drives Column to open the Path Edit dialog box:

Shortcut to path edit dropdown is Alt+D or backslash \

The path of the current folder is shown in the text box at the top. You can:

  • type a different path and press Enter to open that path in the current browser
  • copy it with Ctrl+C
  • Type a few characters to search through favorites or recent tabs listed below. The search results will be shown in the list below the editable path box, and selecting one will open it in the current browser.
  • Path edit box supports auto-complete, so if you type c:\w you will be able to use down arrow to select c:\Windows from list below

If there is a path on the clipboard, it will be also shown in the list below the editable path box.

Right-click on path box to have additional options for copying paths

       Copy path with backslashes

"\        Copy path with backslashes but enclose in quotes

\\        Copy path with double-backslashes (if your destination program needs "Escaping" special characters)

/        Copy path with forward-slashes (most Windows programs won't accept path in this format)

"/        Copy path with forward-slashes but enclose path in quotes

\\?\         Long path copy - use this if your program doesn't want to open path longer than 260 characters, this is a workaround (which unfortunataly doesn't work for Word/Excel as Microsoft wants you to use just their cloud)

8.3        Short path format, ancient. Accepted by some old programs, doesn't work with removable drives (check Microsoft documentation on it if interested)

Default path copy format can be changed in Settings

Tip:

You can copy path to currently opened folder without opening path edit by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Alt+C
