Migrating settings

  • Settings location depends on installation type (MSI/Portable/Store version).

  • MSI installed version: in %localappdata%\OneCommander\Settings (you can paste this in address bar)
  • Portable: same folder where you have unzipped the archive in \Settings folder
  • Microsoft Store version is in C:\Users\yourname\OneCommander
  •
  • The easiest way to find it is to click
  • Settings>Settings location button in bottom-left

  • The main settings file is \Settings\OneCommanderV3.json

  • Don't copy any other file from that folder. The rest from Settings folder are machine specific, so tabs, favorites, tags, destinations, thumbnails, windows... will point to non-existent locations, if you copy everything to a different machine, but if it is just for backup for the same machine, you should backup those also.

Copy settings to another machine

  • Start OneCommander on the new machine so everything is properly initialized.
  • Close OneCommander completely on both machines (Hold Ctrl while clicking close button) and make sure it is not in task manager.

Using Explorer, copy the OneCommanderV3.json from one machine to another to the same settings folder

  • In that settings file most settings are not machine specific, some are.

  • If you have made custom themes, created file templates or scripts, then you will need Themes, Resources, and Templates folder to copy/backup also.

  • Synchronization of settings between machines

  • Settings CAN'T be auto synchronized and MUST NOT be on OneDrive or other cloud/synchronized folder or the program will be crashing due to sharing violation (synchronization software blocking OC access while syncing file), it will cause corrupt settings, the performance would be bad. If synchronized on two PCs, they would be overwriting each other settings, window location, list of favorites and tabs, tags...

OC stores all settings in a single json file which can be found by clicking

Some settings

Favorites will be wrong if it is different username (user folder) and all other paths if drive letters are different, and other bookmarked folders from system drive (then it is question of giving user options to choose which paths to keep). Some tags will be also wrong, destinations, saved windows, tabs.
