Drag&Drop

Copying/moving by Drag and Drop

Files can be dropped to copy/move into any folder in other folder panes, into favorites, or into breadcrumbs (path sections), or into tabs.

Dropping a folder into a sidebar favorites folder copies/moves that folder into the dropped folder, and not doesn't create a folder out of it. See Favorites section for more information.

The standard approach to dragging and dropping items used by Windows Explorer is a bit confusing: it behaves differently depending on whether you are dragging and dropping within or between drives. OneCommander's default method is slightly different but has the virtue of consistency:

  • Drag always Moves
  • Drag holding Ctrl key: Copy
  • Drag holding Alt: Gives additional options

* regardless if source and destination disks are same or different

Explorer's inconsistent way:

Drag moves if the destination is on the same drive, otherwise it copies files; and if it is the same drive you need to Ctrl+Drag to copy, but if it is a different drive you need to Shift+Drag to move files.

if you prefer this way, you can switch to it in Settings > Other > Drag and Drop behavior

Drag with right-mouse button

Not supported. The drag with Alt key is the alternative to it that shows custom menu options, but there are no plans to add drag with right-mouse button like Explorer as that leads to accidental drags when user only tries to open context menu but moves the mouse slightly

Troubleshooting drop INTO OneCommander

  • Getting when trying to drop into OneCommander

This will happen if you run OC elevated (started with "Run as Administrator"). Windows doesn't allow other programs to drop into "elevated" programs; it is a system limitation. Make sure you don't start OC as Admin

  • Attachment from Gmail

OneCommander doesn't have access to the data in Gmail or other non-public websites running in your browser, so the dragged attachment is an invalid link without its security token so is not something OC can accept and use to and download the file.

Troubleshooting drag FROM OneCommander

  • Can't drag to program _____.

If the other program is running elevated (Ran as Admin) it won't be possible to drag into it. That is Windows limitation and there is no workaround for that

Some other programs may not accept file-drop because they don't implement the actual "FileDrop" but expect some virtual file - there is no support for that (blame them for not adding 2 lines of code to support FileDrop)

  • Can't drag into Adobe Acrobat's page list

This is known issue but it is up to Adobe to fix the issue to allow FileDrop, so programs other than Explorer can do it.

There is a UserVoice on Acrobat already on that so please vote for it

An alternative is just selecting multiple pdf files and using Combine files option from context menu:
