File Views
File Views
You can change the way that files and folders are displayed in the Folder Pane by changing the File View.
OneCommander has a number of built-in File Views, which you can modify and add to.
OneCommander saves the File View you have selected for each folder, and each child folder inherits the view from the parent, unless overridden by changing its own view:
The File Views are listed by clicking the button in the Folder Pane Toolbar. The button pops up the following list:
The list previews different types of views
- Default: the basic file view, showing for each item the name (with some metadata, such as the number of pages in a .docx file), "age" of the item (how long since it was last modified), date and time of last modification, attributes, and size.
- Name Only: displays just file/folder names, with no other columns.
- Powershell: Similar to Default, but with the columns in a different order (attributes, date, size, name) in a similar order as shown in PowerShell.
- Thumbnail Grid: Displays thumbnails in a grid; change the size of the thumbnails by holding Ctrl and rotating the Mouse Wheel.
- Thumbs+Details: The Thumbs+Details File View is optimized for folders containing image files. In Settings > View you can get OneCommander to automatically check folders for which you haven't already chosen a File View Design to see whether they might look better using the Thumbs+Details File View. You can override OneCommander's choice by selecting another File View.
- Adaptive: Automatically adjusts listed item size to show relevant information. It will displays thumbnails and metadata for items that support that, excerpts from plain-text files, but folders and items which don't have additional useful information to show will just display as a single-line, not to take additional space. Note that scrolling may not be smooth in this view as items change size as they are loaded
- Edit File Views: You can modify any of these File Views, or create custom Views, with the File View Designer.
Pro tip:
If you create your own custom view, you can set it in the root of the drive (ex: C:\) and all folders in that drive will have that view (unless you override them in individual folders, in which case all subfolders within that one will inherit that view.
Quick view change toolbar buttons
You can enable quick view change buttons that show above the file list
This shows in Names column header, so it will only display if there is enough space in it (resizing the entire view may force it to hide as some resize-points)
This feature can be enabled/disabled from Settings > General using the window editor:
and toggling this checkbox
FAQ
- Change between views just with Ctrl+mouseWheel. Maybe in the future. Since views are user defined, there is another problem which view will be loaded in which order
- Shortcuts to change views. Maybe in the future. Same problem as above, plus it may require an editor for this. Enable quickbuttons, it is still one-action to change view.
Advanced information
The database that stores file views per folder is in Settings folder (FolderView.db) so don't move it to different computers
